Meditation is a technique used to relax, and quiet your mind! Meditation isn’t as hard as it might seem! It’s used to quiet your mind and slow down your thoughts. For a lot of people, their minds race extremely fast and with every thought going through their heads it can be hard to focus!
In this blog I will be sharing different techniques, to help you focus on your meditation! Or anything really! These techniques are great for beginners, and anyone who can’t always shut off their thoughts!

Get started!
Meditation can be difficult for many people! But with practice it can be easy! The best way to start meditation is to just Get Started! You might be asking “how?” – Well let me tell you!
The first thing you want to do is set up a space where you feel comfortable. You want to be in an environment where you can sit and focus, with NO distractions! Once you have the perfect place to start, you can now just sit! And let the thoughts run through your head! Recognize what your thoughts are about, and ask yourself why you’re having these thoughts! The point of meditation is to slow your thoughts down and simply relax your mind! Here is a list of great beginners strategies to help you start your meditation!
1. Choose a positive thought!
Most meditations are more like day dreams! If you can recognize what your thoughts are about, get rid of the negative thoughts, and bring forth a positive one! What are you exited for? What makes you happy? – these are just some things you can think of while sitting in this meditation! For a lot of beginners it will be hard to completely turn off you thoughts! So start by listing things that make you happy, and think of that instead! Make sure you really focus on this thought, and don’t let it slip away! If it does you can simply just bring your attention back to that thought!
With more practice, it will be harder for your day dreams to slip away, and you will learn to focus on only one thing at a time!
2. Breathe!
A meditation you may be familiar with is by breathing! Focusing your attention to your breath is going to be very helpful when meditating!
Just by paying attention to your breath is going to help you fully relax for the full meditation experience! In any type of meditation it is important to breathe! By taking deeper breathes you are relaxing your body deeper and deeper into a much more comfortable meditation!
3. 5 senses!
Still having trouble meditating? Try using your 5 senses! This is my absolute FAVORITE technique when meditating! Meditation is all about focus, so every technique will include focusing on something! But the best part is that it’s your choice! Not everyone meditates the same. So it’s best you find the perfect technique for your perfect meditation!
- Touch!
Using your touch is an amazing sense to use in meditation! By holding an object in your hand, you just need to focus on what the object feels like. OR by using stress toys, such as putty, or stress balls, all your attention should be on the toy, and nothing else!!
- Taste!
This may not be something you want to sit down and start meditation with! Using your taste is actually a good stress reliever! While you eat, instead of eating so fast you forget what your food even tasted like, take time to enjoy your food!
- Smell!
While in a meditation I love to spray my room with a room spray made with essential oils! Many oils boost your confidence, and even help you relax! Try to find room sprays or pillow sprays, that have essential oils in them! A great essential oil for meditation is Frankincense oil! Frankincense oil inspires feeling of connection. Essential oils like Myrrh oil encourages good thoughts!
- Seeing
An AMAZING meditation technique I absolutely love and really encourage you to try, is to sit in a dark room with a candle lit! Focus on the flame of the candle and just keep your attention toward the candle! You can also just find a spot in your room to pay attention to. Seeing is a great sense to use in meditation! By focusing your attention on something with sight, it can be one of the easiest ways to meditate (in my opinion)!
- Hear
While in a meditation there may be sounds coming from different parts of the house. Or outside even! Try focusing your attention to all the sounds you hear! You can also look for guided meditations on different apps or websites to help you with a more guided practice! These can be great because they really help you to visualize yourself in very relaxed situations! These meditations are great right before sleep, to help focus your thoughts on one thing, to quiet your mind before sleep!
PRACTICE!
For beginners it can be hard to quiet your mind right away! It is important to expect thoughts to come into your meditation! As a beginner your thought won’t automatically disappear! That is why practice is important! By practicing every day, you will eventually learn how to turn off your thoughts in no time!
Meditation is good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health! So if you want to improve your health, meditation is the way to go! So if you start practicing, don’t stop! It feels really good once you’ve gotten really good at it, just like anything you work towards!!
Is Time Important?
A lot of people set a timer on their phones for how long they want to meditate for! I personally do not like this because it can be a really big distraction. By setting a timer on your phone, you will keep wondering if the time is almost up, leading to you breaking your meditation! I meditate for a while! But in the beginning I started small. When you aren’t worried about the amount of time you have left, you will fall deeper into your meditation!
When starting out, you should not worry about the time! Just let the experience take over! It doesn’t matter if you meditate for 3 minutes or 30 minutes, as long as you are not worried about the time! If you really want to know how long you’ve meditated for, you can write your starting time on a paper, and your end time! Compare those times to the next time you meditate!

I hope this helped you out! If you try any of these strategies, I would love to hear how they went! If anyone has other helpful tips, feel free to share in the comments and help out other readers!
